Drow Ranger

ultimapanzer —– Duckcowhybrid

The concept is this: Drow can farm. She can push faster than Superman can do shots of JB. Her ultimate is lame as an ultimate but amazing as a skill, it allows her to demolish waves of creeps effortlessly with minimal investment. Drow is also really good at ganking, dealing damage, supporting her team in team battles and killing heroes 1-on-1. With the right build, Drow can do anything.

This guide will attempt to bolster Drow’s survivability and damage, making her a formidable damage-dealer and ganker. We will also maximize her attack speed to fully exploit Marksmanship, in order to push lanes quickly and farm at warpspeed, all by auto-attacking. Screw last-hitting. You will have a constant cash flow, and not only will this strategy win you games it will get you tons of kills.

Skill Build Justification

Frost Arrows is for harrassing and killing. The reason you max it first is because it’s the best slow in the game, and is useful all game. If you orbwalk correctly you can nab an early kill in your lane with it (orbwalking is covered in the Strategy section). Later when you go off to the jungle you can use it to help escape a gank. You can take a level of Silence at level 2 to take care of annoying channelers.

Silence is mainly useful in team battles. When they begin just try to position it so you nail as many of the enemy heroes as possible. Silence is good to have mid game. What happens if you need to run away from a Sven with God’s Strength? Just drop Silence, hit him with a Frost Arrow and bolt, before he Bolts you. Silence can also quite funny against unskilled players who think they can blink away/stun you in a 1-on-1 fight. Just whittle them down until you can kill them in the next few seconds, then drop Silence and kill.

Trueshot Aura amplifies your damage, and late game the bonuses it gives to your teammates will make your presence much appreciated. Since you will be getting a ton of agility in this build, TS will give a nice constant boost to your damage.

Marksmanship is what makes this build. It’s the skill that allows you to attack-move and get every creep kill. Forget last-hitting. With the items I outline below you will be getting nearly every creep in every wave, and will tear up the jungle with this ultimate. As such your pushing and farming abilities are a force to be reckoned with, and no tower is safe from your onslaught.

Core Item Build

Starting Items:
Chicken, 3x GG Branches, 2 sets of Tangoes

2 Wraith Bands
Boots of Speed
1-2 additional Wraith Bands (optional)
Boots of Travel
Sange, Yasha —> Sange and Yasha
Crystalys

Item Build Justification

The Wraiths are really awesome on Drow early to mid game. They increase your damage which makes last-hitting easier, and they give you a much-needed boost in survivability as well by increasing your HP and armor. They also increase your IAS and damage by a ton due to the fact that we are getting Trueshot Aura so early. Drow with TS maxed out and 3-4 Wraiths has around +50 damage early-mid game. Combined with your slow it’s no joke.

You can grab some Boots of Speed sometime after the first two Wraiths are completed. Then after you finish the final 1 or 2 Wraiths, farm up for Boots of Travel. You will be using this all game to push lanes, jump to open lanes for farming, defend and gank. The high MS you will have after completing Sange and Yasha also makes chasing, orbwalking and running away a snap.

Sange and Yasha gives Drow everything she needs: HP, Agility, and MS all in one neat little package. The best part is it’s easy to farm and comes in small, bulky pieces. It’s extremely cost effective on Drow as it gives her an all-around boost. The only bonus that Drow doesn’t use is the Maim, but you have Frost Arrows so what are you complaining about?

Crystalys adds respectable damage and a crit that will proc often due to your high attack speed. What’s more, it’s really easy to farm. This build lets you get the drop on unsuspecting enemy heroes. Your sick slow + high IAS + high MS + Silence keeps even blinkers from getting away from you if they’re not careful. It also allows you to farm like a pro in the jungle and in lanes, where you can take out towers with ease.

Secondary Build

If you aren’t doing so well, if you have died a lot or got stuck in a really tough lane that is keeping you down, go with this build instead:

3 Wraith Bands
Boots of Speed
Ogre Axe
Power Treads
Crystalys
Sange, Yasha —> Sange and Yasha

This way you still still have some survivability and damage, and retain your ability to gank. Power Treads is awesome on Drow if you aren’t doing well, it will really improve your game and help get you back on track. If you get Power Treads you should carry Scrolls of Town Portal around with you at all times.

After the Core Build

The Semi-Carry

Monkey King Bar
Butterfly
Heart of Tarrasque
Buriza-do-Kyanon

Monkey King Bar adds a mini-stun which is useful both for stopping channeling heroes, especially heroes that have some kind of magic immunity on them that Silence can’t go through, such as a CM with BKB. The mini-stun is also useful against one of Drow’s 1-on-1 weaknesses, heroes that will try to teleport away from you with BoT or TP scrolls. The damage and attack speed it adds also complement Drow, and adds to the critical damage. Overall a great next item on Drow.

Next up, it’s The Butterfly. Butterfly is sick on Drow. The problem is it’s ridiculously expensive, and you get NO benefits from it until 6,350 gold later. But do you care? You’re already effective with the core build, and you should have no trouble farming. Not only does Butterfly add damage, IAS and armor, it also adds Effective HP through its 30% evasion. Butterfly will just make you unstoppable.

SnY/Butterfly gives you a very decent amount of survivability. However, if you are being pummeled by nukes and disables, further bolstering Drow’s HP will help solve your issues. Heart of Tarrasque makes you a pain in the ass to take down, adding almost 1,000 HP, which beefs you up quite nicely. At level 25 you will have almost 3,000 HP, and there’s just something satisfying about that. HoT complements Butterfly perfectly. It adds to the EHP you get from Butterfly’s evasion and armor by adding raw HP. Nice.

Finally, if for some reason the game isn’t over yet, you might as well go ahead and finish off your Crystalys by completing Buriza-do-Kyanon. These items will allow you stand in the back of team battles and rape the entire enemy team before Silence wears off. The pretty colors they add to your item slots are another bonus.
