Foreword:

My first Guide to Crystal Maiden, with a pretty expensive item Build, so you’ll have to farm like Shit and borrowing of Items from your allies . With 6.49 released, Brilliance aura of Rylai has been modified to global effect, hence every ally on the whole map will benefit from Her.

Story:

Adept in the manipulation of frost and ice, Rylai is the very image of elegeance and grace. Trained by a renegade wizard deep in the heart of Winterspring, Rylai brings to the Sentinel her prowess in the arts of magic. With a vast arsenal of spells, she wreaks havoc upon her foes - be it with powerful blasts of frost to send them fleeing in panic, or be it by rendering them immobile in ice. Her foes tremble in fear as the ground beneath implodes in mighty novas of frost in a dazzling array, obliterating all who dare oppose her.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:
Chain Nuker and disabler means good early game.
Very good AOE ultimate.
Brillance aura helps Allies to regenerate mana .
Very poweful with perfect item build.

Cons:
Under average MS <280>
Pathetic Armour and Armour gain
Vulnerable to ganks
Very low HP pool
Low mana pool for INT hero
Very dependant on Items
No escape mechanism

Skills and Skill Build:

Frost Nova[v]

Blasts enemy units around a target enemy unit with a wave of damaging frost that slows movement and attack rates for 4 seconds. Units within 300 AoE of the main target will take the nova damage and will be slowed.
Level 1 - 50 target damage and 75 nova damage.
Level 2 - 100 target damage and 100 nova damage.
Level 3 - 125 target damage and 125 nova damage.
Level 4 - 175 target damage and 125 nova damage.
Mana Cost: 125/ 150/ 170/ 190
Cooldown: 9

Frost Bite[E]

Freezes the target in a case of ice, prohibiting movement and attacking. Deals 70 damage per second.
Level 1 - Lasts 1.5 seconds.
Level 2 - Lasts 2 seconds.
Level 3 - Lasts 2.5 seconds.
Level 4 - Lasts 3 seconds.
Mana Cost: 115/ 125/ 140/ 150
Cooldown: 12

Brilliance Aura[R]

Gives additional mana regeneration to friendly units within the map. Does not stack with the Brilliance Aura from Ring of Basilius.
Level 1 - Adds 0.6 mana regeneration.
Level 2 - Adds 1.2 mana regeneration.
Level 3 - Adds 1.8 mana regeneration.
Level 4 - Adds 2.4 mana regeneration.

Freezing Field[Z]

Causes many random icy explosions in an area of 600 AoE surrounding Rylai. Lasts 4 seconds.
Level 1 - Each explosion deals 105 damage.
Level 2 - Each explosion deals 170 damage.
Level 3 - Each explosion deals 250 damage.
Level 4 - Each explosion deals 310 damage.

Skill Build Explanation:

Frostbite taken at Lvl 1, and then Frost Nova maxed as it is your basic harrasing Nuke. Both Frost Nova and Frost bite are maxed to level 8.Frostbite is a good early game disable.nova helps in killing of heroes with low HP and slowing Low health enemies.Frostbite helps to single out the enemy during a gank, rendering him/her helpless.
Brilliance Aura Taken Mid-Late game when Rylai needs Regen for spamming Nukes.Freezing Field taken at Lvl 10,11,16.Freezing Field at lvl 6 is not a good option as it takes a lot of Mana and Rylai has pathetic stats early game.Freezing Field will eventually drain your mana and mosty you’ll miss a kill, making you look like an overblown baboon . Mid game ganks are avoided by taking Stats, and boosting your Mana pool. Remember Rylai is heavily dependent on her Mana pool.

The support build stresses on aiding your lane mates.

Item Build:

Rylai doesnt have a wide scpoe of items to consider, there are only few of the core items you may consider building to achieve a good output from her.
Early Items:

Early game start of with RoR and some sets of tangoes, preferably 6 sets. Do not waste your gold buying more Tangoes as if you are expecting a nuclear holocoust.
Make 2 bracers for Survival and Boots of Speed to increase your pathetic MS.I may also recommend Empty Bottle for her, but it is for you to choose it depending on opponents.

Blink Dagger is for escaping ganks and also to initiate a good freezing field in between your enemies undetected.Arguably the best Item for her.
BKB is to avoid Rylai being Targeted while Channeling her Freezing Field.Also adds a good 10 Strength. immune to spells .Also nerfed to 80sec cooldown in 6.43
Aghanim’s Scepter Improves her ultimate’s damage her mana pool considerably and gives 500 Hp. This Item helps Rylai Survive.Also improves the visual of Rylai…A bluish glow
Shiva’s Guard is a new item introduced in Dota and goes well with Rylai, (As both have originated from Winterspring :D). It gives 25 Int, 15 Armour, -25% AS <Attack Speed> Aura, slowing all nearby enemies.Also has an Activable AOE Frost effect[Arctic Blast] , doing 200 damage to enemies and slowing them by 40%. A seriously very good Item for Rylai to finish off any fleeing enemies with low Hp after Channeling Freezing Field.
Now Euls have been changed, and they give +20 MS, Also charges of cyclone have been removed, so basically it is a good item for CM as a basic Gank and Defensive mechanism.
Linken’s has been nerfed with an awesome 20 second cooldown which is a YES YES for Rylai.

Rejected Items:

Dagon is Useless on her. You’ll be managing a ridiculously low mana pool and spamming Dagon on top of it is a Crime. Do her justice by not making a dagon atleast:P.Also upgrading it is costly and gives very poor stats.

EoS provides awesome stats and Mana, but is useless on her. Slow is useless on her as she has spells to do it, and also EoS is I think best suited for Low HP Agi heroes.

Refresher Orb may look good but i strongly recommend against that notion. FF takes ridiculously high mana, then 375 mana for Refresher and then again a very high mana cost for FF. It will leave you with 2 digit mana, and looking like a beautiful Creep .Also it provides low stats.

Mekansm is not suited for her at all. Takes a lot of mana. Recommended for Allies

DPS items are good as Blink Dagger on pudge…..

Strategy:

Early Game:

Rylai is a very Fragile hero [Heroine ], thanks to her Pathetic stat gain . Select a Lane partner preferably a Strength Hero, with a disable. If you want to solo, Solo Bottom lane for Sentinel or Top lane for Scourge. DO NOT spam any of your spells, they will drain your mana. Last hit and Deny. You’ll get an average gold of 100-150 against a good opponent.Hold on your lane until you have enough gold for boots bracers and Blink dagger.

Rylai is a very Fragile hero…. check out her armour at lvl 1…. ie only 1. her starting Stats are very pathetic and also on top of that she has a pathetic MS.

So best option is to increase her HP pool and Armour. Buy some gauntlets or circlets and Tangoes early.

By level 6.. ganking starts taking place… so you should brace yourself to escape ganks as you are still fragile.
You should have atleat 1200 gold in your Inventory at lvl 6. Get the GG bottle and Boots of speed ASAP.

Mid Game:

Here you would have maxed out your frost bite and frost nova and 2 levels of Freezing field.Go for some hero kills and initiate ganks. Go for Neutral Creeping for some extra gold.MUST get Hero kills at this stage, as you are strongest Mid game.Complete BKB and Soul Booster here and buy plate mail if you have enough gold.

OR

At level 18 you have 2 options, either to invest in HP and Mana pool first or boosting Armour.
If more nukers on opposing team go for Soul booster—-> Aghanim’s, IF DPSers by level 12 you have FN and FB maxed and 2 level of FF. So its hero killing time. Buy a blink Dagger the best escape and ganking mechanism. this will help you to sustain without BoT. Complete your bracers by now.
Then go for Shiva’s guard for Armour boost. Shiva’s guard acts as a good Disable and escape mechanism, ie Arctic blast+blink = total safety.

Late Game:

Here you have to fulfill your job as a support-Push one. You are no longer very domiant late game, especially agianst tanks. Just Push-Push-spam nukes and Push. Own your enemy’s Rax as soon as possible. Leave hero killing for Late game DPSers .

At level 25 you should’ve atleast Aghanim’s and Shiva’s in your inventory. the next items is upto the gameplay of opponents !!!
Animation Cancelling:

Rylai has a bad habit of showing off her sapphire encrusted 100-carat golden staff after you use FN or FB, Wasting much needed seconds. So to eliminate that show off, cancel the animation by moving or attacking the enemy, the moment she raises her staff.

Pugna,Rhasta,Bane are your best friends. Thier disables are very good, worth many kills. They are gank Initiators.
Silencers are like double edge swords, both Good for you and worse when as an opponent. They will help you Channel your ultimate and Save your ass when being chased.
mana and health regenerators will help you stay alive and dominate your lane. Omni is your best friend, Repel will help you Channel your ultimate without a BKB and Heal to Save trips to fountain.Dazzle is formidably gay while supporting heroes, Shallow grave will never make you rest in peace .
AOE nukers will amke a grand effect of combo spells.useful to wipe out the entire team. Imagine Echo slam and Freezing Field.

Anticasters:
Antimage (moth********) will kick your ass the whole game. Mana break sucks, Spell Sheild Sucks more and blink is just too much to escape your ulti. Also Mana Void is a sure pawnage ability.
Nerubian Assasin(Ass****) has the best harassing skill in the game. he’ll make you cry.
Pugna has decripify and nether ward to rip you to pieces….
Rylai is an Archimage, silencers will make you look like a beautiful creep.
All those late game DPS heroes are bane to you. They’ll rip you apart befor you have chance to use your spells .
