My guide to Azgalor- The Infamous Pit Lord, who gets repicked often in -ar mode
.
Many people dont know how to use his spells, so i have been writing this guide.(ps: nor did i understand Dark Rift
) Basically he is a support hero, though he can play solo, but isnt that effective.According to 6.49: Changed Dark Rift from channeling to cast delay and reduced mana cost, Increased Pit Lord’s movement speed and starting Intelligence.

Story:
One of the many regents of Lord Archimonde who became stranded on the physical plane after the Legion fell in Kalimdor, the devil Azgalor’s love of destruction allowed him to accept the Lich King’s invitation to help lead the Scourge in conquest with few regrets. After all, this Pit Lord is happiest when he conjures fire to scour his opponents from above, roasting them slowly as the dead literally explode from beneath their feet. With such hateful power in the hands of a monster such as this, it’s no wonder he inspires so much terror as he roams across the battlefield.

Firestorm is your basic Nuke, Max it first, useful for farming and harassing. Pit of Malice is a good disable, useful for trapping those ugly bastards who try to sneak XP when they have a low HP. Best used with blink dagger. A combo of blink-PoM-Firestorm deals a decent damage. Expulsion is your Farming ability (most cases).. but also a good harrasing AOE ability. Dark Rift is the most expensive (ie in terms of mana cost) teleport i have seen… that too with cast delay
.

Now you are one hell of a semi caster and tank
, so you’ll have to boost your mana pool and HP considerably. for your mana regen, arcane is the best option. RoB is also good, and helps later to make Vladmir’s Offering, which gives lifesteal aura. Now you are free to with an Orb option of your own, so i may recommend Manta style. If you are making Arcane, then opt for satanic as your basic Orb.
Blink Dagger is hell lot of usefull for you, for the Blink-PoM-Firestorm combo.
Heart of Tarrasque is for ultimate tanking. Radiance is used for farming and to boost Expulsion abiltiy.
Battlefury fanatics can opt for Battlefury. Power Treads to incerse your MS,AS and your attribute (Go for STR or INT). Lastly AC as a dps item and an armour boost.
I have considered Necrobook after testing it, and actually it is very good item for him, especially makes him a bit of an anti caster. Make it against casters, ie 3 out of 5 are casters.
Rejected items:

All those DPS items like Butterfly,MKB,Buriza,Basher are useless as you are a semi caster Tank like Earthshaker. You are a team support basically and also owing to your pathetic AGI gain you cant dish out enough Crits or Stuns. butterfly sounds good with evasion damage Ias, but is useless, and Assualt is better option for boostin your armour.
Guinsoo sounds good but i dont recommend it as you have a good AOE disable. Agreed it gives good mana regen, but there are other items out there to help you gain much better.
Refresher is pathetic on Azgalor, you wont have mana to cast it second time, and for heaven’s sake dont act like some passenger train or rescue convoy in some battlefield
.
Lothars will make you invisible and they wont be able to spot you in the forest, sounds good… if you follow this advice i can assure you to make Dagon on Naix.

Basically almost all heroes work well with you. You just need a good team co ordination to achieve a GG.

All those Anti casters and Mana burners are your Hardcore Enemies. Also Spell reducer and Late game DPSers are a bane to you.

Strategy:
Basically early game pick a lane partner ( Ranged disabler if possible or any Powerhouse heroes).Azgalor has an impressive starting HP pool of 625. Start of with a Ring of protection a circlet and some tangoes.
Being melee select a lane partner and you can select either of top or bottom lanes, not the middle as it is usually dominated by nukers and ranged heroes. Pitlord can also solo effectively, so if you are soloing, select the Bottom lane for Senti or top for Scourge; as it will help you in tower hugging.

By lvl 6, you should have farmed about 1500 gold minimum. buy Energy Booster, a Null and a circlet.
If you are going for Manta, then make a Ring of basillus and buy a Vitality Booster. (RoB for Vlads).
Mid game you should focus on helping your teammates in ganking, as you have an excellent AOE disable, helping to pawn Fleeing heroes. Hence dagger is useful on Pitlord, as it will greatly help in postioning your PoM ahead of your opponent and also chance on a few extra hits. The positioning of PoM and invoking Firestorm should be simultaneous to achieve a great Combo. Also you can secure some kills in this stage, and you’ll be farming all over (thanks to expulsion), so gold will flow at Mid-Late game.

Late game you are a complete support and a tank. help your Team mates, and act as a bait to lure opponents. use your disables to trap them and let your allies do the Cleaning Job. tank up both armour and Hp. you have enough mana late game to spam your nukes.
Firestorm loses potency Late game, and hence use it to farm. alternate between Expulsion and Firestorm. Lead your team to enemy base using your ultimate, thus saving time and thier mana.

Radiance is the cookie cutter item for Azgalor. Expusion and radiance help Azgalor to farm well. Also gives your damage a nice boost. Arcane gives an overall mana of 300, and also Replenish, very good early game.
Also notice the base damage of Pitlord is very high, 124-130. INT gain is too Impressive for a STR hero, with an overall of 79 INT. Expect a very good regen late game. So you can substitute your arcane for a SATANIC as an ORB item.
The 2nd Build is an alternate for radiance, as manta style acts as an alternative for RADIANCE. Your natural Tanking Abilities give your images an extra boost. now do take into account that you should make HoT first and then manta. You may also Include Battlefury if you are not a supporter of Immolation (radiance).
I suppose your Images will do splash damage , negligible but worth it
.
Do boost your Armour as you see your BASE armour is 9. Assualt Cuirass will greatly boost your EHP. I suppose 1 armour point = 120 HP.. so 20 Armour will beef you up Considerably.

In the Radiance Satanic build, you will have less mana regen, a negative point and will be less effective.
But when you make Bfury, you’ll have a good Mana Regen, also cleave will splash decent damage and will boost you Lifesteal chances. So in short if you are going for Satanic then opt for Battlefury 75% time.
The combo of Satanic and radiance is good, but it will hamper your Mana regen, so go for Battlefury instead of Radiance, and Skip you arcane ring, go for early Perseverance.
35% cleave on Base 127 damage= 35*127/100=44.5 damage splashed good for expulsion.
Lifesteal Characteristics for Azgalor (or why should you preferably favour LS on PITLORD):
Pitlord has 2 orb options, ie Manta or Life Steal.
Due to his high base damage, it is foolish to skip the Life leach, so it is necessary to evaluate the ORB options carefully while selecting Manta.
The Vladmir’s Offering gives a decent Lifesteal AURA, hence it is best combo with Feedback, Burn their mana and suck their life
.
Vladmir’s gives a good Mana Regen, much needed for Pitlord. So its great item with the Manta build.
Vlads gives a 15% lifesteal, hence evalution done is:
Base damage:124-130
Avg damage done: 127
15% of LS = 19.05 regen, depending on your AS.
A better regen than a HoT with Armour and Brilliance Aura. and considering ONLY the base damage, it will vary according to the Item build.
Now when you opt for other build, ie the Arcane Ring Build, you have the ORB option of Making Lifesteal as ur BASIC ORB, ie making Helm of Dominator and upgrading to Satanic. now Satanic gives 5 armour boost with 25 STR, enhancing your tanking abilities. A great option for Azgalor, to tank more
.
Also Satanic provides extra unholy LS for your further REGEN.
Satanic Evaluation:
Base damage:124-130
Average damage:127
By HoD 15% LS=19.05 Regen.
By Satanic 25% LS=31.75 Regen depending on your AS.
By Satanic Frenzy 40% LS=50.8 Regen depending on AS.
Satanic as you see is the best item for pitlord, gives much needed armour, HP and Lifesteal.
Basic Screenshots of Spells and their Effect:

The imaging of PoM, its like invoking a graveyard, in WC 3 the animation of graveyard invoked by the acolyte is similar to PoM. You can see those RED dots within the circle, indicating the Units which are to be disabled. The AOE size is roughly that of Rain of Chaos. There is no Animation cancelling for Pitlord, the spells are simple and just need some practise.
A rough AOE of PoM when you are just about to invoke the spell.

Firestorm has an AOE roughly that of Hoof Stomp. The disadv of this spell is that your enemy can evade it easily.

A rough diagram of PoM and Firestorm Aoe. The basic aim is to first invoke your firestrom and then to rapidly invoke PoM for a full 3 second damage. Deals a very good damage.

Expulsion is your Harass-Farming Skill. Also does a Mini Stun, so its good against those channelers, like that Dratted Pudge. The basic Animation of Expulsion is that of Flame Strike by Blood Mage, only the places where the corpses are present there the spell effect takes place. So more the corpses more the damage.

Dark Rift is your Team Teleport (or Solo) and is basically used to teleport the team members to a location where you haved planned to gank. Its a great ability for Ganking opponents and to teleport the entire team to the enemy base quickly. The channeling nature of Dark rift was removed and spell delay has been introduced in this version. Thus even if you are stunned or any anti channel spell is done on you you will still teleport.

The Animation is Similar to Dark Portal, only the exception is that no Fel Hounds or Demon Lords come out of it ![]()
Concerning Power Treads:![]()
According to 6.49b, you can change the attributes ie +10 STR/AGI/INT.
Now AGI is useless for Azgalor, so you must focus on INT or STR.
Early game you need HP to survive, so go for STR attribute.
Mid game when you’ll be spamming spells and Disabling opponents, go for the INT attribute.
Its simple and depends on the Gameplay.
Conclusion:
I hope you liked the Guide
